The scuba diving in Jamaica is predominantly organized along the north and west coastline - this coincides with the major hotel and tourism areas of Montego Bay, Negril, and Ocho Rios. Many of Jamaica's shallow reefs are close to shore with short boat rides to many sites - perfect for beginners and novices. For the more experienced diver, the alluring Cayman Trench runs past the north coast, allowing deeper diving opportunities on the thrilling wall dives
Another “must see” is Katherine shipwreck, an old Canadian minesweeper which was sunk by purpose in order to create an underwater artificial reef and at the same time attraction for divers.
In Jamaican waters in front of Ocho Rios divers can expect to see reef sharks, nurse sharks, groupers, stingrays, snappers, green moray eels, turtles and schools of barracudas. There is also plenty of tropical fishes like glasseye snappers, squirrelfish, indigo, shy hamlets
and red band parrot fish moving around the reefs.
Ocho Rios offers a diversity of dive challenges, snorkeling, shallow and deep dives during which you will be fascinated by the wonderful underwater life, colorful fish and beautiful seascapes. Water temperature varies from 27°C between January and April up to 30°C degrees in September making Jamaica all year
diving destination. ‘Ochi’ dive sites will attract you by their breathtaking aqua life, sites like Harbour reef and Daxall, which are home to nurse sharks, scorpion fish, lettuce sea slug and coral with different attractive colors.
