10 Curiosidades del Tiburón Ballena

1.¿Tiburón o ballena?: pertenece a la familia de los tiburones, pero se le asignó el nombre debido a que su gran tamaño se compara con el de una ballena.

2.El más grande: es el pez más grande del mundo, llegando a medir 12.65 metros de largo (registro más grande obtenido), y un peso de 21.5 toneladas, pero hay personas que afirman haber visto ejemplares de 23 metros y un peso de 43 toneladas.

3.¿Vivíparos u Ovíparos?: al principio se creía que eran vivíparos, luego que eran ovíparos, pero los últimos estudios demuestran que son ovovivíparos, es decir, las crías eclosionan en el interior de su madre, y sucesivamente la madre “da a luz” a sus pequeñas crías que al nacer miden entre 40 y 60cm de longitud, similar a la longitud de un bebé humano.

4.¡Buen provecho!: a pesar de poseer una enorme boca (1.5m de ancho) se alimentan principalmente de plancton, aunque a veces varía su dieta con bancos de pequeños peces y calamares, las presas van hacia él, ya que solo tiene que abrir la boca y succionar para comer. No somos parte de su dieta, una razón más para conocerlos.

5.Tiempo de formar una familia: no se sabe mucho sobre su ciclo de reproducción ni de las formas de cortejo, pero se estima que alcanza la madurez sexual a los 30 años y tiene una media de vida de 100 años, aunque algunos piensan que pueden llegar a vivir hasta 150 años.

6.Un gran animal: en la religión vietamita son venerados como deidad y conocidos como “Ca Ong” que significa “Señor Pez”.

7.Un gran territorio: es una especia migratoria, por lo que abarca casi todos los océanos y mares cálidos cerca de los trópicos, excepto el mar Mediterráneo, ya que en sus migraciones recorren desde Australia Occidental, hasta el Caribe Mexicano.

8.¡Cuidado con el tiburón!: no hay que preocuparse si se encuentra a uno, ya que no representa ningún peligro para el humano, tienen un comportamiento bastante cariñoso y en ocasiones juguetón con las personas.

9.Protección al gigante de los mares: actualmente existen leyes de protección a la especie en algunos países, pero a pesar de esto, muchos ejemplares son cazados con regularidad en países como Taiwán o Filipinas.
